“Healing blessings come in many ways, each suited to our individual needs, as known to Him who loves us best. Sometimes a ‘healing’ cures our illness or lifts our burden. But sometimes we are ‘healed’ by being given strength or understanding or patience to bear the burdens placed upon us.” -Dallin H. Oaks
This post is a little jumbled, but it's sincere. There’s a lot going on and I don’t have the words yet, but I’ve learned two big things this month:
We will receive strength to do what is asked of us if we ask. That’s called grace.
YOU can be someone else’s miracle
(BONUS) Yes, life can be low, but you can still have genuine happiness along the way. It’s not an either/or kind of thing
I can't count and don't care to edit it
These past five months, we have been searching for answers. We have pursued the healing that “cures our illnesses or lifts our burden”, to heal the body I am stuck in. Logical, right? When something’s broken, you try to fix it. My body’s broken; it can’t sleep, metabolize, or even stay sitting up right. So, looking for an answer of healing to fix it was our goal. While we are still pursuing a fix to heal my physical pain, a different kind of healing has been taking place.
President Oaks said “Sometimes we are ‘healed’ by being given strength or understanding or patience to bear the burdens placed upon us”. Every time I lacked the strength to meet the situation I faced, strength came. This has been a repeated promise in blessings and a common theme in scriptures, lessons, and devotionals I’ve come across. In a devotional at BYU , Elder Bednar described this as grace, which allows us to “receive strength and assistance to do good works that [we] otherwise would not be able to maintain if left to [our] own means”.
Every time I lacked the strength to meet the situation I faced, strength came.
When I didn’t have the physical strength to keep up, miracles happened, coming in forms for every situation. Strength and understanding were given, just enough to take another step forward (because that’s how faith works). Unexplainable stamina, peace, and people flooded in, helping in ways I couldn’t even know to pray for. There are too many wonderful people to list that selflessly reached out and took care of my family when we weren’t even ready to admit we needed it. This is what ministering is, as I learned. Ministering is reaching out to be someone else’s miracle. That’s being an instrument in the Lord’s hands. YOU can be someone else’s miracle. YOU can be someone else’s healing.
YOU can be someone else’s miracle. YOU can be someone else’s healing.
Sometimes the hurt that needs healing is the kind you can’t see, and it takes a willing and listening heart to help. I am so thankful for those who have showed selflessness at its best, and I'd like to challange you to think about yourself for a second. We are our own harshest critics, and it's easy to question what difference we make, thinking no one notices or we don't have anything of value to offer.
What you think is no big deal could make all the difference for someone else.
I challange you to look at what you have and look for chances to use it- be the answer to someone's prayer. What you think is no big deal could make all the difference for someone else. When you are the answer to someone's prayers, it's not about how big or small it is, because it will always be just enough- you just have to be willing to be there. Go be a miracle!
